Volem: Multilingual Verb Lexicon for Catalan, Spanish and French

VOLEM (Verbs: Multilingual Lexical Organization) is a lexical multilingual data base of a subset of Spanish, Catalan and French verbs.

This resource was born from the collaboration between GRIAL and IRIT researchers by means of the grant funded by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Communauté de Travail des Pyrénées de la región Midi-Pyrénées.

This project allows us, through the interrogation module, to obtain the translation between Spanish, Catalan and French of a group of verbs. One of the most relevant aspects of this project is that we can obtain information about the usage of these verbs in the different languages:

  •  the dispositions of the arguments in relation with the verb (alternations)
  •  the semantics of the constructions in which they appear
  •  the thematic web (thematic papers of the arguments: agent, theme, etc.)
  •  the semantic class into which verbs following the WordNet project are
  •  an example

The interrogation can be done for one of the languages or the information can also be acquired from more than one language at the same time (multilingual interrogation). The menus allow us to select different search criteria to decide the information that we want to visualize.

A second grant has been conceded for his project.
